See the vanity installation procedure here
When installing the hood fan make sure that you aren't putting screws in cabinets where they will be blocked later on and make it difficult to get cabinets down once everything has been installed without taking the entire hood fan down as well.
All Hood fan cover panels should be placed in the lower cabinet below the hood fan so that they don't go missing or get damaged.
Make sure you have installed all under cabinet lights in upper cabinets and do a check to make sure that they all work so that we don't have to take any cabinets down in the future to replace lights or wires. Once backsplash goes on removing upper cabinets becomes much harder.
This is to stop cabinets from being bumped out of place before counter tops are either measured or installed.
This will stop any gables for dishwashers from being bumped out of place and cause flooring to be installed incorrectly. We do not want to have gables out of plumb and have it be an issue for deficiency crews later on when the appliances have already been installed and are in the way.
This will insure that when flooring crews inevitably move our cabinet legs to install flooring they will be able to put them back to the same location and height. We will also then be able to check that our legs have not been moved before counters go in.
Doing an initial balance will save lots of time later on and stop any damage from happening from misaligned doors or drawers from hitting or rubbing.
Make sure to install both parts of the hinge covers. This will stop hinge covers from being missed and getting lost.
This will again stop covers from being missed by labourers or being lost all together.
If you need matching colour fast caps please ask your foreman.
Kicks should be cut down to allow for flooring to fit after it has been installed. Kicks should also be cut to allow for the dishwasher door to swing open and not catch on kicks. Leave kicks in a safe location within the siute. On top of the upper cabinets is best so long as there is a large enough gap.
Double check that all outlets and plumbing/gas has been cut out for before you leave because it becomes very hard to check for these once the counter tops have been installed.
Island plugs in the island end gables are to be cut out like the picture below and there should be templates on site to use. If there are no templates then please request some from your foreman.
By leaving the panels here flooring crews won't need to move them around which stops them from going missing or getting damaged.
Leaving these in a top drawer will make sure that they are always in a common location for appliance crews to find as well as make sure that they aren't thrown away by cleaning crews.
Make sure that all doors that don't have soft close hinges have a Tip-On installed in the cabinet in order to open the door. These doors include the hood fan doors, pantry door, and above the fridge door.
Put all garbage and cut outs into a bin or box to be taken away by a labourer later on.
Do not leave scraps and/or cardboard on the floor. When you are done installing a kitchen the suite should look tidy and neat and not like a carpenter who doesn't care was just there.
This should be installed on the inside of the sink cabinet near the back and the top. This way the sticker will not be visible after everything else has been installed but we are still able to view it later on if needed.
You should put your name, the date, and any issues or comments about the kitchen or its install.
There are some do's and don'ts when installing cabinets and these are a few that you should be taking note of:
Do not screw #8 screws straight into the cabinets when attaching them together. You should always counter sink first and then put the screw in and it should not be sunk into the material too far. This will eliminate blow out if you need to pull that screw out again for some reason. If it is a #6 screw that you are attaching cabinets together with then you are able to not counter sink but you need to make sure that you don't sink the screw too deep and you keep the head flush with the material to stop blow out.
Don't screw together lower cabinets too close to the top of the cabinet because once counters are installed you aren't able to get a drill in to take that screw out if needed. So you should keep all screws in the lowers down about 75mm (3") at least.
Don't screw cabinets together where the screws will be hidden by appliances. Try to place screws in the cabinet next to appliances so that we are able to access them without having to pull out the appliance. Please see the note about refrigerators in the "DO" section.
If you have a gable that is sandwiched between two cabinets please try your best to not attach that gable by screwing through the face of it into one of the cabinets. This will mean that once you have both cabinets installed on either side of the gable you are unable to access all the screws to take out either the gable or the one cabinet if needed for a repair or adjustment. If you screw through both cabinets into the gable then you will always have access to the screws and can release both the gable and the cabinet without having to uninstall and fully remove extra cabinets.
Install screws in the hood fan cabinet if at all possible. Once the hood fan itself is installed it will block those screws and make it nearly impossible to pull the cabinets on both sides down without removing the hood fan as well.
Place all screws for attaching cabinets together in location that are not visible or as hidden as possible.
Behind or in front of hinge plates (so that the hinge arm covers the screw) are good spots.
Through drawer slides.
At the back and top of a lower cabinet (75mm down from top at least though)
Behind a shelf
When screwing a fridge filler on you will need to make sure that the filler or gable has something to screw onto that is at least 100mm (4") back from the front of the cabinet. This will make sure that once you have attached the filler or gable the screws won't be seen when you open the fridge door. Typical fridge doors will leave about 75mm (3") of the cabinet case visible so having screws there will always be visible. If you do leave screws closer to the front in order to have access to them there is also a high chance that the hinges of the fridge and freezer door will block a screw anyways and you will need to remove the fridge in order to get all screws out.
When you find damaged cabinets or parts you should take a photo and add it to a group text with everyone else or have a foreman take the photo and send it off.
If the damaged part is repairable by the shop and you have documented the damage you write down the unit number on it and take the damaged cabinet/part to the "damage room". This will be the cut room or a designated room where everything will be stored temporarily until it is collected once a week.
If the damaged part is not repairable and we need to order a new part you should let a foreman know right away so that they can let someone else know to order new parts.
